As a modern Latina, I aspire to do it all: be a great mom, excel at work, (try to be) a good housekeeper, and keep everybody happy, including myself! January is going to be a busy one for us: we’re celebrating Brandon’s 14th birthday with a party at home. A few days later I’ll be traveling to California to complete my 11th Half Marathon in Disneyland. The week after I return, I’m starting an accelerated program to complete my education degree. And in the meantime, we’ve been house shopping and may be purchasing a new home within the first few months of the year. Sometimes this wonderful yet busy life is overwhelming…just looking at that list gave me a headache! That’s why I like to have Advil® Tablets on hand. Not only do they help ease the inevitable headaches of trying to juggle life’s crazy turns, but it also helps with minor muscle aches from my half marathon training.

The best way to manage all our activities and appointments is to write everything down! Whether it be an agenda, or To-Do lists, it helps to have everything in writing so that I can keep track of things and scratch things off as they get done, or even delegate some things to my husband or the kids and avoid going loca!

Here are a few tips to show you how I’m getting organized to survive the next few months:

  • Purchase a planner – There are so many on the market, but you have to choose what’s right for you. I chose one that’s not too big but not too small. It fits in my purse, but is big enough that I can write comfortably in it. It has a layout that includes both a monthly and weekly calendar, with enough space to write information about doctor’s appointments, school assignments and blogging deadlines, birthdays, and family and school activities.

  • Use a variety of writing tools – I’ve got both a pencil and a pen attached to the spiral of my agenda. Things I know won’t change: birthdays, races, and days off from work are written in pen. Other items like assignments and appointments are written in pencil so that if there are any changes it’s easy to correct and reschedule.
  • Delegate when possible – With so many activities coming up, it’s easy to neglect the day-to-day chores: laundry, dishes, groceries. Since the children are old enough to help around the house, they do their own laundry, load the dishwasher and walk the dog. They also clean their rooms and vacuum the common areas of the house on cleaning day. Often, I ask my husband to stop at the store on his way home from work so that it’s one less thing I have to do. Sometimes I even convince him to be in charge of dinner so that I can clean, study, blog, or even go for a run.

  • Stock up on essentials – When I’m at Walmart, I check my shopping list, and stock up on those things I know we always need around the house: pantry staples, paper goods, detergents and cleaning products, and of course Advil®. Advil® provides tough pain relief that let’s me keep on going. I’ve got a bottle of Advil® in my kitchen, my bathroom, in my purse, and once I start school I’ll have some in my backpack too! After all, Advil® is the #1 selling pain reliever. *Among OTC brands. *Use as directed.

  • Take time to relax – Whether it’s a bubble bath, a nap, or a nail appointment, go ahead and take a moment to decompress and recharge those batteries. Sometimes I just need to ignore the To-Do list and take a nap for an hour. I end up getting more things done with a clear head than just going, going, going and wearing myself out.

Tell me, what are some of your goals this year, and how are you staying organized to make sure you accomplish them?
